Grill Trolley Alert!
I hear the angels blasting on their trumpets, oh happy day!!!! The grill trolley is completed and is in full use! Jb loves it! and I'm incredibly proud of myself. Many changes, mishaps along the way, a long journey.....original bones, not very good. Decided I wasn't going to enclose the bottom, removed the boards, filled the holes, and there it sat....for a month.
Got back to it in a big way! I love taking boring boards and creating!!!!

I CAN SEE THE FINISH LINE!
potato.....
Almost done, almost there, can definately see the end, it is in sight~ I love, love, LOVE cubbies/boxes but there was an extreme amount of work put in to these. Multiple, and I mean it, layers of Kilz, staining, kilz, and staining some more. I did go with a Behr semigloss latex, waterbase Ultra White...say that 3 times fast.
but all of that elbow grease well worth it. the last .25 is a few touchups inside, and Kilz and paint the top, oh, and of course cut and paint the trim, then the three "potatoes" will be joined. yeah!!!!!!!
I did go with 100% Kreg Joinery, only used finishing nails for the upper thinner trim, bottom trim, Kregged!
These cubbies are very sturdy, no wiggle, no squeaks, no jiggle. I love them, have I said that? And the greatest part about these> one month ago I wasn't a builder, had no plans to be, and then I came across Ana's site, and voila, I'm now sitting here typing covered in sawdust and paint, I love it!
I now see the finish line, and it looks great!
A few more pics, oh and a sidenote, I was able to find a smaller bit, after trying about 30, that was shorter and I was able to use that to join my Kreg holes inside the box!
This is the bedding I ordered for my Cubby top, I am cutting my old chair cushion, on a chaise to fitMy beautiful pup who's been busy digging holes while I've been distracted by my building....

How to Eat an Elephant!
Today I've been mitering, schmitering all day with a friggin miter box! Using pine, probably should've used moulding, easier anyhow, I just love the transition from plywood to pine. Pine is such an easier wood to paint, not much sanding. So pine it is, cause it's what I had on hand, and just couldn't wait to finish my cubbies. Everythings sanded, primed, and ready for final paint. Thought about using the Rustoleum spray paint, in the end, too scared. Just bought a really nice roller and good paint.
Decided to add a sewing cart, pullout, next to my windowseats. They will be permanent, but it will be a great place to sit, and pull my sewing cart in front of me and work on textiles for all the "hardscape" I'm adding to the house, thanks to knock off wood.

Bonus
I was checking the supply need, and I think I've got enough scrap to make it, just need to buy the casters and hinges! yeah!!
Hopefully, when my sewing machine has been released from the computer room closet, and right in site in the living room, I'll do more sewing.
Bre's doing good, she made it to her art class, and therapy. Busy day for a busy little lady! Had a nice chat with the MIL, and having JB on VACA now, very nice, a little trying though, have a lot of projects to get to, but love spending time with him too.
The plan, manana, finish my trim move the two cubbies in, and start the 3rd.
That's how to eat an elephant.....bite by bite.

Under Construction/Storage Daybed...Reclaimed plywood
I'm EXTREMELY proud of my second box! I can't stop looking at it!
Lots of work went into it...still needs a lot more painting, tiny bit more sanding, but the bones are there, and they're great bones!
I've got the 3rd of 3 cut, but need to primer it, sand, etc.
It will be great, it will be FABULOUSSSSS~http://ana-white.com/2009/12/plan-stratton-daybed-as-request-by-you.html Thank you Anna White, for your awesomeness...and the plans are pretty great too!!
This is the link to the plans I'm using, somewhat modified, from 39 wide, to 30 so we don't stub our toes walking by the space.
So, I've modified the plan from a daybed to windowseat and storage for my gobs of yarn.
Here's a few pics of what I've got so far....remember use your imagination, still needs a little more paint, sand, and the trim...to be FAbulouS
without the basket...Cubby #1` still,
Cubby 1 still, now Cubby #2 with a few pics of construction as well
Cubby #2, important...do your priming, painting, sanding, staining, whatever you finish you want, prior to Boxing it up. So much easier then trying to jack in the box yourself to paint. As you can see, I've made Jig holes and these are for attaching the top. I feel like it will be a tad bit stronger then the finishing nails that were recommended in the plan. The sturdiness is a must, I want by windowseat to be used a lot, and don't want any of the big butts to fall thru!
close up view of Cubby #2
All Constructed, ready for a hand sand with 220 grit, and a coat of primer, I use Kilz, latex, waterbase, think it's the bees knees
The inner backing, leftover, not the greatest cut, I will be adding a 1 inch trim to hide my bad cut there, needs to be caulked with white caulk along the seams
So proud of myself. There's a different feeling to actually saving money by making, sanding, painting your own piece of furniture. So, it would be great if everyone had the cash lying around to shop from the PB and J (as I like to call the Pottery Barn) catalog, but not many of us do. And I don't want a cheap knockoff, I want a GREAT knockoff, a one of a kind by yours truly!
Since the 4rth is tommorrow, don't foresee to much progress, hope everyone plays safe, and keeps all their fingers and toes.
On a side note, the plywood was reclaimed from my Golden, Sandy's whelping box. This was waterproofed, covered in floor tile, and did not even come into contact with the pups.
The Baskets came from an old coffee table. I just will not buy new if I can repurpose something!
Lastly, my father in law passed on, quite suddenly, he was more of a father, a big part of our family, and he will be missed. As I make this piece of furniture, he weighs heavily on my mind. Love you POP, Sis
